HOMETOWN HEROES PROJECT
• A personal and visible way to honor military veterans 2 weeks prior to Veterans Day and again before Memorial Day through July 4
• Double-sided vinyl banners with individual photographs of men and women in uniform (2 veterans per banner) with their branch and specific war/conflict are displayed on lampposts around Aiken County
• Eligibility: an honorably discharged veteran who is a current resident or has lived in Aiken County in the past
• Cost - $85 per veteran (family with 2 veterans could purchase an entire banner for $170) paid by individual veterans, families, private donations, or businesses and is tax-deductible
• Scholarships for deserving veteran(s) unable to afford the cost
• Application process: submission of DD 214 form and photograph of veteran in uniform. Applications available on ACVC website (www.aikencountyveterans.org ); paper copies via Aiken County Veterans Affairs Office (Dwight Bradham), Aiken County Building (1930 University Pkwy, Aiken); Aiken County Library branches (ABBE); and Aiken and North Augusta City Halls
• Applications reviewed by a committee of Veteran Service Organizations to verify veterans’ DD 214 and dates of service for authenticity
• Funds raised in excess of banner costs will be retained in the ACVC treasury. After the program closes, remaining funds are donated to the Veterans in Need (VIN) fund to assist Aiken County veterans

21" x 45" single-sided banner (backside is blank) replicas – cost is $30 per banner
